5 Week Introductory Wheel Throwing Class
For those of you ready to learn the foundations of making pots on the wheel the studio is set up and we are ready to offer pottery wheel throwing classes. We are very excited this is now a thing. We are offering small classes with only 4 students, so you get plenty of attention.
What will be be doing?
During this 5 week class you will learn the foundations of making pots using a pottery wheel. Over the course of 5 weeks you will learn
How to centre your clay on the wheel
How to start to pull up your clay to make a form
How to trim your pots when they are partially dry, to finish off your lovely form.
Then we will come back to glaze your pieces to finish off your functional ceramic masterpieces.
We will talk about form and the basic shapes that set you up with the foundations for making simple forms like bowls and cups. There will be time to practice your throwing over each lesson as you get the hang of things, building your confidence every week.
Lesson Length
Classes are 2 hrs long, and run for five consecutive weeks. Same day, same time.
Who is this class for?
This course is ideal for both absolute beginners through to those who've had a few lessons, but need a refresher or want to improve their technique.
Who is teaching me?
All classes are taught by Lea Durie. Lea has been working with clay for over 20 years and makes all the pots for Mud Dept. She has been taught by the best teachers in courses and masterclasses, has studied ceramics at TAFE and university and will soon have finished a Masters in Visual Arts majoring in ceramics from ANU. Lea loves sharing these skills and watching the joy that comes from making your own pieces. She will gently guide you through every step and make sure you have fun at the same time.

Please note: only the FIRST date of the session is listed on our booking calendar below. You only need to book in for the first date of the session and you will be automatically signed up for the full 5 week term.
Sadly we cannot offer make-up classes if you can't make one so do try to plan to be here every session.
The Details
Where: Mud Dept. Studio. 63 Monkittee St, Braidwood NSW
Time: 9:30-11:30 am
What's included: All materials, tools, firing and glazing for your makes. Your pieces will be ready about 2- 4 weeks after the class with pick up from the studio.
What to bring: Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. We will provide an apron and towels.
Terms
Due the small class sizes we can only issue a refund if the workshop is cancelled. You are welcome to send someone along in your place if you need to pull out. So we can create a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone please don't come if you are unwell. By purchasing a place we understand that you agree to these conditions.
A minimum of 3 people is needed for a workshop to proceed. Refunds will be issued or new dates offered if the workshop is cancelled.
